My understanding is Gameservers.com will have the monopoly on dedicated servers at the start. many I have spoken to say Gameservers.com with be the only provider. I think it is unlikely.. here is the latest poop from Gamestop..

Here's everything we know so far in one handy place!

Black Ops is coming out November 9th, 2010 for PS3, 360, and PC. Treyarch has said that unfortunately there isn't a public beta planned at this time.

The max rank of Black Ops (at least in this internal beta) is 50. No word on Prestige Mode.

There are dedicated servers, lean, and will be day 1 mod tools.

Dedis are rented, no mods allowed on Ranked play (official content only). Unranked play can have mods/custom maps, etc.

Max players for ranked play on dedicated servers according to GameServers is 18, unranked max is 24.

Black Ops will have cheat protection in the form of VAC again, meaning the game will be attached to Steam. No official word on if VAC bans from MW2 will prevent people from playing Black Ops and vice versa.

New game mode: Wager Match. Players bet their COD Points and play in one of 4 new game modes with the hope that they place top 3 and get more cash than they had before. Players who aren't top 3 don't get anything. These modes are further explained in the Wager Match vid linked below, and are intended for adrenaline junkies.

Players level up which unlocks the capability to buy things with COD Points, which is the "cash" you wager in Wager Matches. You can buy weapons, equipment, perks, killstreaks, and character customization options.

Players can also buy Contracts which are time limited challenges that you purchase with COD Points (CP). There are three categories of contracts -- Mercenaries, Operations, Specialist. Each are tied to certain play styles and in-game achievements.

Customization Options:
-Change the color of the reticle � red dot doesn�t have to be red or a dot.
-Emblem editor � images, layers, and a background. You change the scale, move, color, rotate, all that stuff. Create layers, then purchase the option with COD points to put it on your gun
-Can engrave words into guns.

Secondary weapons are exclusively pistols, crossbow, and launchers only. (Ballistic Knife is a pistol)

Equipment and Special Grenades are now separate.

Launchers - M72. RPG. Strela. China Lake.

Lethal Grenades - Tomahawk. Frag. Semtex.

Tactical Grenades - Willy Pete. Nova Gas. Flash Bang. Concussion. Decoy. Willy Pete is smoke.

Equipment - C4, Claymores, Tactical Insertion, Jammer (acts like Scrambler from MW2), Camera Spike, Nighting Gale (makes a fake red dot on the radar), Motion Sensor

Perks unless mentioned otherwise are currently similar to their MW2 counterparts.

Tier One Perks - Lightweight. Scavenger (doesn't refill Tactical Nades or Equipment). Ghost (Cold Blooded). Flak Jacket (can't be one hitted by explosives, slight juggernaut effect). Hardline.

Tier Two Perks - Hardened (no clue yet). Scout (Iron Lungs from COD4). Steady Aim (will have a different pro effect since Iron Lungs is in), Sleight of Hand, Warlord (Bling)

Tier Three Perks - Marathon. Ninja (no heart beat sensors, has the roll effect?). Second Chance (Treyarch's Last Stand, differences from IWs: if a guy on your team has this perk he can revive you, if you get gibbed by something VERY strong, you don't go into last stand, you just die). Hacker (Sit Rep). Tactical Mask (reduced effect of stuns/flashes on you).

Tier 1 Perks affect how your character looks, Ghost gives you a ghillie suit, Flak Jacket gives you body armor, etc.

This leads us to today�s announcement - Call of Duty: Black Ops will definitely have dedicated servers. That is, as long as you get them from gameservers.com. We can compare that with Henry Ford's legendary statements that customers can have a car in any color as long as it�s black. The gameservers.com statement goes,

"GAMESERVERS.COM SELECTED AS THE EXCLUSIVE DEDICATED SERVER PROVIDER FOR CALL OF DUTY: BLACK OPS. GameServers.com, in an exclusive contract with Activision and Treyarch studios, announces that they will offer dedicated server rentals for the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops release scheduled for November 9, 2010. We are extremely excited about this unprecedented relationship with Activision to offer dedicated servers exclusively for Black Ops�, says David Aninowsky, CEO of GameServers.com. �We are placing a great amount of pressure on ourselves to ensure that we exceed any and all expectations."

What does this mean? It basically boils down to Activision Blizzard, Inc. still wanting control over what kind of content is played on the servers and not allowing the development community to do as they please. For gamers, this means that there won�t likely be many if any mods much like MW2. The exception, though, is that there could be a possibility for a competition mode of the game, but that�s still, of first, last and only resort.
GameServers.com effectively have a monopoly on COD: Black Ops server hosting. They also have limited the ranked multi-player to 18 slots just like MW2. If in theory want to have more, you can pay for an unranked server for $.99 per player per month.

So, for those of you that thought that Treyarch and their announcement of dedicated servers would bring back life to the COD franchise, Activision appears to have made sure that they limited it to the point of not really being dedicated anymore. This appears to be yet another game that has been ruined by the narrow mindedness of management that only wants to see margins and deliver dates rather than a good game. This, in the end, will hurt Activision greatly as they are effectively killing off a franchise on a platform that it originally started on. Interestingly though, it looks like Activision Blizzard is desperate to repeat the curious case of Electronic Arts and their fall from grace.

If MW2 didn�t leave a bad taste in gamers� mouths, there�s a good chance that the way Activision is handling Black Ops may. Here is also a new game play video of COD: Black Ops that was just released.

Morning guys,

Well I have worked on the servers this morning, and have now added the following:

vars.textChatModerationMode free
vars.textChatSpamTriggerCount 5 seconds
vars.textChatSpamDetectionTime 10 seconds
vars.textChatSpamCoolDownTime 120 seconds

Basically what this will do is keep the server free for anyone to chat (yes we can mute the entire server). However, if someone spams 5 messages ina 10 second period, they will be muted for 120 seconds.

We can also add players to the text spam moderation file.

Everything is case sensitive. "Muted" is not "muted".

Strings must be encapsulated in quotations to be sent as one word, so if a player has a name such as I am Legend, you would need to wrap it with quotes like so, 'I am Legend'.

Code:

First: textChatModerationList.addPlayer admin Unfaithful Sin
Second: textChatModerationList.addPlayer admin "Unfaithful Sin"
Third: textChatModerationList.addPlayer muted "Unfaithful Sin"

You can see the debug output of each command to give you an idea what it was doing and why it would throw invalidArguments if the wrong sytax is typed.

So, for you guys saying... huh, wtf?? This will basically reduce lag from people spamming !rank etc.

I dont have wolfcon access to the ban area for that server so someone needs to make it permanent please.

i just saw now all the replies to my thread and it was closed before i got a chance to say something.

i do remember now what it was all about, i did not hack but used a bug in the game witch u can change in game options at vehicle speed from "w" to mouse scroll, and then if u spin the scroll apc will go fast,(and i only used this bug before game start never during game) and when people start to complain bout it i stopped, thats why no admin saw me doing this, and guess some1 saw me and reported me to admin as hacking. i tried to see if i can get unbanned hence i will behave promise and not do stupid things and get banned for them. Guess gona have to play on other servers. See u @!

Ok so a few of you guys know that I have a dual boot up on 2 hard drives. I've been running W7 for quite a while and I decided to try my other hard drive. I noticed a few errors which I addressed, but it still wasn't running properly. So I then decided to reformat the one hard drive. I did that this morning but now my other hard drive with W7 wont boot at all! Extremely pissed. I dont even get the dual boot Os selection screen. I tried unplugging the one hd to force the other one to boot, but it doesnt.

Insite would be wonderful.

Since Friday evening, servers are gradually being upgraded to R21.

It was developed in response to some RSPs reporting that players would spam in the text chat, and that would cause stuttering for other players.

�There is a spam filter for text-chat: if someone sends 5 messages in 10 seconds, that player is muted for 60 seconds
�Text chat can be muted across the entire server

Well as most of you would have seen, the website was down over night, along with everything else (due to the fact I host everything). I was able to set wolfcon up on my own pc luckily but everything else died due to a memory issue.

Anyway, godaddy has now rectified the issue and we are back up.

I have Played on your server and like how it is operated, and how well the players work together, it is obvious that many return here as they seem to know one another even non clan members.
i introduced my self in the forums.
i will consider donating regularly, but i would prefer to give it a month or so to see how well you guys treat clan members, i have been associated and been a regular donator in other clans only to find they split, dont use the money wisely, etc... show me this is where i should be.
i use the tags -VC- in game...this is a group of 24 guys we are not a clan we just meet together, but we find the tag will help us on servers to stick together. Veteran company is the full name. and yes we are older mature BF players.

.....whenever they have a friend to sleep over, and they will at some stage if they're not a pyschotic loner like Barto or Dj, keep them on a short tether.

My daughter had her friend to sleep over tonight and they asked if they could have a bath to which I agreed and ran them a bubble bath. Nina got them into the bath and were playing nicely so she left them to their own devices. My house is Victorian, built in about 1875 and has a very old bath which is fantastically deep compared to modern tubs and holds a fair bit of water. The kids love it. But knowing how they are I took the precaution of laying some towels on the floot to mop up the water that I knew would be expelled from the tub. I went into the room next to the bathroom where my computer is and did some work interupted only by the splashes, giggles and laughter of two 7 year olds have a good time.
About twenty minutes later my wife ran up the stairs (and running is about as alien to my wife as a sense of humour) "Come quick, look in the kitchen" she yelled. I ran down stairs and there it was. A mini Niagara Falls coming through the downlighter. I ran back upstairs into the bathroom and there I saw a miraculous transformation. Most of the water that was in the bath was now outside. I never knew towels could float. I ran downstairs to get some more old towels
and thankfully the water had stopped coming through the ceiling. There wasn't much water on the floor in the kitchen despite the amount that had been coming through the downlight. This is because 37 inch flat screen HD TV's make suprisingly good sponges. As do DVD players and fridge freezers. It really is quite remarkable how much water they hold.
Back in the bathroom holding a veritable Everest of old towels and cloths, the kids where still playing in what appeared to be a waterless mass of bubbles. Not in perhaps the most convivial of dispositions, as I left the bathroom to fetch more towels and mopping up tools I asked the girls to get out of the bath. "Aawwww, we're still playing" two heads peering above the side of bath said in stereo. I didn't need to say anything. The look was enough. They ducked down behind the side of the tub as if waiting for incoming mortar fire. "Anyway, if we get out now it'll just make it wetter". OOOUUUUTTTT!!!!!!

The moral of the story, if indeed there is one, is only to let your kid and their friend fool around in the tub supervised by Special Forces. Far better is to take them out back and hose them down.

While using CA PC Tuneup late last night, I watched the program making changes in the registry to PnkbstrA. I had a feeling I would have issues playing BC2 this morning. Sure enough....I tried to populate the Hardcore server and got the following error message.

I banned a guy in the rush hardcore and dont recall the name if someone can set me up with a password for wolfcon i could check his name and check pbbans...but in the logs it will say banned with reason, shooting people from behind uncap at the instant the round started, hack...

Map was arica harbor, I was on the attacking team where you start way back in the back with a few tanks a quad and a humvee... The round starts, we all spawn, we all start running for vehicles, BAM shot in the "back" from behind... WTF? I look at the scores since the kill messages are so god dam short duration... 1 person had 2 kills, everyone else 0... this was within just seconds of the entire server spawning in... complete hack...

It was suggested in the teamspeak he just swapped teams to see where people where then swapped back but this is incorrect and not possible as we were shot from behind where he couldnt physically be for 1) he would be out of bounds that far back, 2) it was the first 5 seconds of the round, no way in hell he got there that quick even if it wasnt out of bounds...

I banned his ass...

Hey guys I have noticed an influx of abuse to the votekick system on the SDM server. As it stands now it takes only 1 yes vote to kick a player. Of course there are some that want to kick for non-valid reasons and they can because all it takes is their vote. I have seen things like a guy wants to be in another squad, well he kicks a guy to take his spot. Things of that nature. I meant to post about it yesterday but forgot. I was quickly reminded just now in game when it happened again and a player warned that there is already 4 negative comments about the server and that the abuse of the votekick system will lower the ranking of the server. Not sure exactly what hes talking about but I figure you all will. Anyway I think it needs attention as there is apparent abuse occurring. It should take more than 1 vote to kick any one player.

Cause this guy just emptied ur server by constantly typing things into the chat, like once every second.
It causes sooooo much lag that we can barely play and people just disconnected. I think it would be cool if u can limit how much a guy can type in a minute cause it isnt the first time this happened. I go on ur server often cause it has the lowest ping out of all populated Rush server 2 me :)
